Media Statement: Perindopril Arginine
01/04/2008

As of 1 April 2008 perindopril’s tert-butylamine salt will be replaced by the arginine salt. Perindopril arginine has a longer shelf-life than perindopril tert-butylamine. At the revised dosage, (perindopril arginine 2.5,5,10mg/day corresponds to perindopril tert-butylamine 2,4,8mg/day), the new salt is equivalent to the current salt in terms of efficacy and safety.

The reason for the change in the UK is the global simplification and harmonisation of the manufacturing process for perindopril. The arginine salt of perindopril is already in use in Australia, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland and some central European Countries and it has brought a number of benefits including an extended shelf life and greater stability.
