Servier UK - Dr Jack Servier

History of Servier in the UK

Servier’s activities in the UK commenced in December 1963 when Selpharm Laboratories Limited became the first international Servier Subsidiary, changing our name in 1970 to Servier Laboratories Limited.

Since 1969 Servier has carried out pharmacokinetic and metabolism research in the UK. The research laboratory of Servier UK started its life in the modest surroundings of a haunted cinema in Wealdstone, Harrow, in March 1973.

By January 1978, the Company had moved to new premises in Perivale and the Research & Development Department of Servier UK was established as a leader in pharmacokinetic and metabolic research.

In 1981, the Company moved to the prestigious environment of Fulmer Hall in Buckinghamshire to establish a purpose-built, modern and comprehensively equipped research laboratory under the name of Servier Research and Development Limited.

In 1984, the UK International Centre for Therapeutic Research was established within Servier Research and Development Limited. It is responsible for conducting Phase I, II, III clinical trials in the UK with the object of bringing to market new Servier pharmaceuticals.

Fulmer Hall was closed in 2005 when a new multi-million pound state of the art research and development facility was opened in Wexham Springs. The new laboratory, which follows sustained expansion of the company in the UK in recent years, houses Servier’s Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Laboratory and is also the UK base for Servier’s International Centre for Therapeutic Research (ICTR). The company’s UK head office has also moved from Fulmer Hall to the new site in Wexham Springs.

Also in 2005, Servier Laboratories Limited was awarded three prestigious Pharmaceutical Marketing Effectiveness Awards, including Company of the Year (<£100 million), Product Launch of the Year for Protelos and Customer Focus Award for Diamicron MR

In 2006 at the Pharmaceutical Marketing Effectiveness Awards, Servier Laboratories Limited was the winner of the Therapy Franchise Award for our portfolio of cardiovascular drugs and were finalists for Company of the Year (>£100 million).

Also in 2006, Servier won the Communiqué Award for Best Professional Campaign for ASCOT.

In May 2007, Servier won the "Innovation Award" at the Buckinghamshire Ambassadors Awards and were confirmed as the "Corporate Supporter of the Year" at the Life after Stroke Awards.

In October 2007, Servier opened a new state-of-the-art multi million pound Post-Marketing Analytical Laboratory in the UK. The laboratory, which forms part of the Centre of Biopharmacy Research, will work to ensure the highest efficacy and safety of our molecules and pioneer new technologies to ensure we are at the forefront of new scientific developments that enable us to further improve the quality of our molecules around the world.

In April 2008, Servier launched an annual report into Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities following the success of the first year of the programme, which included Servier being awarded the Corporate Supporter of the Year by The Stroke Association.
