Information Systems and Laboratory Services Department

The Information Systems and Laboratory Services Department provide operational support for the Laboratory in many diverse ways.

  • Information Systems Management supports all users of our computerised systems by providing project management and validation support and liaison with the Information Technology team. In addition this team sources and evaluates new computer systems to support laboratory activities.
  • Laboratory Compliance includes compound management, waste management and laboratory Health and Safety. This work involves liaising with regulatory bodies such as the Home Office and the Environment Agency.
  • Laboratory Services manage consumables, reagents, equipment and other laboratory or office items. This team also deals with equipment servicing and faults as well as many other laboratory support functions.
  • The Library contains journals and books relevant to our work and provides information search facilities and a publication request service via the Internet.
  • The Archives provides secure storage for all raw data and documentation relating to our regulated activities.


The department also provides planning and project management expertise. As part of a corporate system, project management tools are used to plan and monitor our scientific tasks. The time spent on projects is recorded and used to help us build models to improve our planning and use of budgets.
