"The people and structure at Servier allow success to flourish; you won’t find yourself pigeon holed here"
Following professional and academic qualification as a pharmacist and a few years working for the NHS, a new challenge was required and the pharmaceutical industry possibly offered the solution. I decided to break away from the usual career path that a stereotypical pharmacist might follow and applied to two pharmaceutical companies; Servier, a privately owned multinational, and a larger multinational public limited company, for the role of Medical Information Officer. Following successful interviews with both, I was left with a dilemma!
Fortunately I chose Servier. The people and structure at Servier allow success to flourish; you won’t find yourself pigeon holed here. If you can excel, the environment at Servier has, and continues to let you. I know because I certainly have. Not only has our team grown in number, it has grown in strength too. My colleagues are reciprocally supportive, pleasant and all are from different scientific fields and countries. This has allowed not only evolution of my own personal skills and experience but that of the role too.
While still remaining one of the public faces of Servier we have developed into Scientific & Medical Information Advisors with extended responsibilities and influence. As well as medical enquiries we are all involved in product project work via the specific product cross functional teams. This includes being part of the promotional material approval process to adhere to the ABPI Code of Practice and dissemination of information to national bodies, particularly around the launch of new Servier innovations. We are after all a research focused, development driven company.
Whether it’s supporting individual healthcare professionals, their patients or communicating with internal, public or private sectors, I bring my valuable experience and perspective to the fore. Plus it’s a good feeling when you’ve done a great job with exceptional people and you’re yet to peak as an individual.

"Company standards are high but I feel supported, guided and inspired by the people around me"
I graduated from Oxford University with a medical degree in 1999. I went on to work as a clinician in secondary care where I received my MRCP before moving into research. However, I still found myself searching for new and exciting challenges in my career. I wanted the opportunity to develop my medical knowledge but also combine it with experience of the competitive business world. Ultimately I decided on a career in medical affairs, which would satisfy me academically and teach me a range of skills a traditional medical career might not offer. I’ve only been with Servier for 5 months and already my experience has far exceeded my expectations.
Initially I was attracted to Servier because of its strong foundation in R & D and the company goal to produce innovative pharmaceuticals that benefit patients.
Since joining I’ve found my job to be exciting and no two days are the same. I work with a variety of individuals with a whole range of different skills. Company standards are high but I feel supported, guided and inspired by the people around me. The company also commits to and supports me in my higher medical training.
I started 5 months ago as a medical advisor in the disease area of Osteoporosis and already my role has expanded into the area of Mental Health. Generally, I work with the marketing teams and I help support and execute their marketing strategies. My role also involves meeting a whole range of people outside of the company from national and international opinion leaders to large institutions such as NICE. Very soon I also hope to be running post-marketing trials.
In a nutshell I now feel I have found those exciting career challenges I was so searching for and I can’t wait to see what my future with Servier will bring.
Training Officer
"it is a wonderful feeling to contribute to the development and success of individuals"
"Servier recognises talent and hard work, that would make me recommend Servier to any new graduate looking for their first job in the industry or an experienced representative looking for a new challenge"
Clinical Research Associate
"Servier has encouraged me to set targets and goals to continue my development in clinical research and to allow my future progression within the company"
"The opportunities for training and development have been extensive, and included spending 3 months in Paris as well as attending many useful courses and training days locally"
Assistant Clinical Project Manager
"Social events are organised regularly and team morale is always high"
Clinical Quality Assurance Officer
"I have the feeling that Servier really do value their employees and endeavour to ensure a positive culture"
Although I work within Quality Assurance my educational background is in Chemistry. After obtaining a PhD in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry from Reading University I moved into analytical chemistry working for a Contract Research Organisation (CRO). After working for 5 years as an analytical chemist and as a project manager I moved into Quality Assurance (QA).
My 2 years as QA in a CRO was great but I really wanted to move into a different environment and try something new. I had always worked with pharmaceutical companies, but now I wanted to work for one.
Until the recruitment agency secured me an interview with Servier I had never heard of the company. I did the usual research beforehand by looking at the website but this was all of the knowledge I had.
It wasn’t until the interview that the attraction to Servier hit me. On the same day I had an interview with another pharmaceutical company and the differences were clear. Servier made me feel welcome right from the start; I felt like I was being interviewed because they wanted me to work for them. The other interview was completely the opposite and so there was no hesitation in accepting the position at Servier.
The training I have received since joining has been well thought out and constructive. I have been allowed to develop in my role by continual progressive training, but without going too far ahead so that the training is not there to support me. Together with this, I feel I have been allowed to develop my role not only so that Servier can get the best out of me, but to also help me to develop myself as a person and to broaden my skills.
Since joining Servier I have heard people say, both from inside and outside of the company, that Servier is respected within the pharmaceutical industry, that it is respected for its commitment to its employees, values its employees and strives to develop an enjoyable working culture. My initial reaction was that I had heard this all before.
After only a few months of working for Servier I now understand that this talk is not the same - I have the feeling that Servier really do value their employees and endeavour to ensure a positive culture so that coming to work everyday is not a chore. Yes, the role is challenging but in a positive way.
So why work for Servier? Moving into the main pharmaceutical industry was a big step for me, but it couldn’t have been smoother with the help and the support of all the staff. I can sum it up best by saying that although I have worked here only a few months it doesn’t feel like I have worked anywhere else – the people, environment and the role have helped me to fit in and has made me feel part of the team.

"Servier has managed to balance an ethos of hard work and innovation with employees who genuinely enjoy their job"
After graduating from medical school in 2004 I worked in a number of training posts chosen to give myself a broad experience of medicine. I was keen to develop my career further and I felt that pharmaceutical medicine would give me an excellent balance of interest and challenges for the future. At my first contact with Servier I was struck by how friendly and open the company culture was, an environment in which I felt I could reach my potential. Since starting the job I have had excellent mentoring from my colleagues as well as more formal training courses run from the head office in Paris. In addition to this I’m continuing my higher medical training in pharmaceutical medicine.
As I have learnt and developed within my job I have had the opportunity to take on more responsibility and build firm foundations for my future career. Emphasis has been placed upon providing sustainable progression within the company and I have always felt supported. Servier has managed to balance an ethos of hard work and innovation with employees who genuinely enjoy their job. I have quickly got to know people from other departments and I think that it is this openness that sets Servier apart from some other pharmaceutical companies. The history and values of the company combine to provide a unique working environment and I would not hesitate to recommend them as an employer.

At Servier I have received extensive training in many different areas of clinical research and exceptional personal development
I am a Biochemist with a PhD form the University of Southampton, who has worked in the field of diabetes in the clinical research industry for the last 7 years. I joined Servier two years ago having been attracted by the research driven nature of the company and a new diabetes project, which would utilise both my scientific background and clinical research experience.
At Servier I have received extensive training in many different areas of clinical research and exceptional personal development.
I was promoted within 12 months of joining Servier in recognition for the experience and contribution I brought to our team, which shows that Servier recognises and rewards individuals.
I work with a motivated global team committed to reaching common goals and a company that is both dynamic and people orientated.
The values of Servier are honesty, integrity, and teamwork.
I would recommend Servier as an employer if you enjoy challenging yourself, developing yourself, and working with an ethical and research driven pharmaceutical company.
